Anambra Police Nab 9 Over Rape, 2 For Defilement

Anambra state Police Command said on Monday that it has, within one week, arrested eleven suspects involved in rape and difilement. 

This was disclosed in a release by command spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu. 

Among the 11 are the six suspects allegedly involved in the gang rape of a 19 year-old girl in Orama-etiti, Anam, Anambra West Council area of the state, on Tuesday, 11 November, 2023. 

The incident, which was also downloaded on the social media, went viral.

The suspects, Chinua Obikezie, 17; Collins Ogbodo, 19; Ifeanyi Chijoke, 17; Abuchi Ikechukwu, 17; Ezenwa Afam, 18 and Sunday Okafor, 27, were arrested by the police, supported by local vigilantes, at Otuocha, Anambra East council area. 

Three other suspects alleged to be involved in the act are said to be on the run. 

In another development, operatives of the command arrested three suspect in Abagana, Njikoka council area, while on routine patrol with the local vigilante.

The suspects, Chimezie Odugwu, 21; Nnamdi Anodebe, 19 and Jude Onua, 48, were nabbed on Saturday, July 8, over their alleged involvement in the violation of a 15-year-old girl. 

The statement noted that the suspects admitted culpability in their confessional statements, insisting however, that they found the victim wandering around Abagana junction after which Chimezie lured her to Nnamdi’s house in the same locality where he raped the girl, alongside Jude. 

While still bemoaning her fate after the ordeal and have left the house in tears, she met Jude who, on the pretext of giving her shelter, took her to his house where he also raped her before she was rescued by the police and vigilantes.

Meanwhile, operatives from Ekwulobia Division, Aguata council area, arrested one Chinenye Ezemehege, 41, alleged to have defiled a 13-year-old girl.

The suspect, who claim to be a security guard at the market, confessed to the act, explaining that he had been paying the girl between N500 and N1000 for her "service". 

Preliminary investigations revealed however, that the girl's parents usually send her on errands to get firewood at the Ekwulobia Market before she fell prey to the suspect.

In another defilement case, operatives attached to the Atani Division, Ogbaru council area, arrested one Odimako Ikenga, 38, of Ossomala Village, on Thursday, July 13. The suspect who is said to be on police wanted list in an ongoing investigation of a case of defilement of a 12-year-old girl.
