Expect More Resignations From PDP Unless…Fabiyi

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Oladimeji Fabiyi has warned that the gale of resignation storming the party would continue unless the PDP is ready to enter into a coalition with other opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

Fabiyi made the remarks in a press statement signed by him on Monday, noting that “the PDP is obviously having a tough and rough time moving forward to 2027.”

He explained further that the PDP, a political party that had the opportunity of ruling the country for 16 years, “is today struggling and has become a shadow of itself.”

He stressed that it is shameful that the PDP “could not find a common ground to resolve its impending explosion and subsequent destruction.”

“The scale of defection and resignation that will visit PDP in the next few months would be unprecedented unless the party found quick solutions to its accelerated dwindling fortunes,” Fabiyi remarks.

He maintained that the major reason for the free fall of the party was the inability of the party leadership to instill and maintain discipline among its erring members who act is if they are bigger than the party.

“Party members and those who are interested in running for elective offices under the party platform don’t see hope and future in the party anymore.

“Even at personal level, when an individual is engrossed in indiscipline such a person cannot make any meaningful progress in life. The PDP has become a party lacking in self- discipline, therefore progress has significantly eluded the party.

“It will not be meritorious to blame or question anyone who leaves the party on genuine reasons,” Fabiyi said.

He added that “the PDP cannot make any meaningful impact in 2027 elections with its fragmented current situation; more so, NIgerians do not see it as a better alternative to the failing APC.

“In addition, it is impossible for the PDP alone to win national elections against the APC, therefore , it must have to form a coalition with other serious opposition parties to send the failed government of Bola Tinubu out of office because, in 2027, the consensus should be about rescuing Nigeria from the suffocating grip of the APC. It is a task that the PDP cannot carry out standing alone,” Fabiyi noted.
