Father, Neighbour Buried Alive in Benue Over Thunderstrike

Two persons have been buried alive in a Benue community over their alleged involvement in a thunder strike that killed a family of three.

The incident, which happened on Saturday in Ikyve village in Konshisha council area of the state, led to the death of a man identified as Henry Ihwakaa, his wife and a two-week old child.

Following their death, an irate group of young people, mobilised and apprehended the man's father, alongside another elderly neighbour, whom they named as being behind the incident.

The duo were beaten black and blue before they were buried in a hastily dug grave while they were still alive.

A community source who claimed to have notified the police at Tse Agbaragba, the headquarters of the council area, disclosed that the two men were buried alive and were dead before policemen got to the village.

“The incident happened at Ikyve in the Konshisha Local Government Area on Saturday. There was a light rain that day accompanied by thunder which hit a young man, his wife and a two-week-old child and the three people died.

“As a result of that, youths in the village mobilised and went to the house of the father of the young man whose name is Henry and the father’s name is Ihwakaa, they attacked him and an elderly man, dug a grave and buried them alive,” Agan said.

However, while confirming the incident, the state police command, via its spokesperson, SP Sewuese Anene, said only one individual was buried alive, adding that two suspects are already in the Command's custody.
