Ihiala Killings: Anambra Police Boss Orders Manhunt for Suspects

Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered an immediate manhunt of the assailants who attacked security peratives and unarmed civilians in Ihiala, headquarters of Ihiala council area of the state. 

The deadly attack, which occurred at about 11.20am on Monday, 30th December 2024, left seven persons, including five security personnel and two passers-by dead.

The Joint Security Team rescued one of the victims who is currently responding to treatment in a hospital.

The police boss, who paid an on-the-spot assessment visit to the scene of the attack, spoke with a number of eye witnesses from whom he gathered that the armed men started shooting sporadically at a venue where preparations for a burial ceremony slated for Thursday, January 2, 2025, were ongoing.

Investigations also revealed that while escaping the scene, the armed men shot at two Security Operatives at a security Observation Post close to the Local Government Headquaters by the Express Road.

While consoling with families, friends and the good people of Ihiala over the sad incident, the commissioner assured them that the perpetrators of this heinous crime would be hunted down.
