Why Tinubu Sacked Ministers-Presidency

The Presidency has explained the reason behind the long awaited sack of six ministers ministers on Wednesday.

The explanation is contained in a press statement issued also on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga.

According to Mr Onanuga, the sack was necessitated by the commitment of the president to reinvigorate the administration's capacity for optimum efficiency in line with his quest to deliver on promise to Nigerians.

According to the explanation, the president approved the immediate implementation of eight far-reaching actions in line with the objective.

The axed ministers are Prof. Tahir Mamman, Education; Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, Women Affairs; Mohammed Gwarzo, State for Housing; Jamila Ibrahim, Youth Development; Lola Ade-John, Tourism, and the suspended, embattled Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, already replaced.

The names of seven nominees, including the wife of Late Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, Bianca Ojukwu, were forwarded to the National Assembly for approval.

While Shehu Sani was appointed Chairman, National Sports Commission, which replaces the ministry of Sports, Sunday Dare takes up the position of Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications and Orientations attached to the Ministry of Information and Orientation.

Another remarkable decision taken by the President include the renaming of the Ministry of Nigeria Delta Development to that of Regional Development with a mandate to oversee the activities of all the Regional Development Commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission, South-East Development Commission, North-East Development and the North-West Development Commission. Others are the immediate winding up of the Ministry of Sports Development and transfer of functions to the National Sports Commission, designed to develop a vibrant sports economy; the merger of the Federal Ministry of Tourism and the Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture now to be known as Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy; the re-assignment of ten (10) ministers to new ministerial Portfolios.

Onanuga disclosed that ten (10) Ministers have been assigned new portfolios.
