ALAAFIN STOOL : Governor Seyi Makinde’s Executive Rascality Will Earn Him Monumental Disgrace-Fabiyi

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Oladimeji Fabiyi, has stated that the appointment of Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo is an executive rascality that will earn him monumental disgrace. 

He made the comment in Abeokuta on Friday via a statement he personally signed, as part of his reaction to the announcement of the new monarch for the ancient Yoruba kingdom. 

Fabiyi who opined that the Alaafin stool has endured for over ten decades, added that it has however, never been brought this low,.

According to him, any attempt by anyone, no matter how highly placed, to reduce it to ridicule will back fire.

Fabiyi said beside being in contempt of the court it also amounted to an executive rascality for the Governor to have announced a new candidate when the matter over the selection of Alaafin duly selected by the Oyo Mesi two years ago is still very active in court.

"This is what we have been saying that these Governors always think they are lords while in office and they tend to play God . It is a sign of weakness and perhaps frustration on the part of the Governor to have taken this illegal route to enthroning the Alaafin, a stool that symbolises the heritage and strength of the Yorubas.

"Why can’t the Governor wait for the court to decide? Why can’t he deploy all the resources avai at his disposal to get judgement that will favour him? Why is he afraid and in a hurry to perpetrates injustice ?

"This lawlessness and abrasive behaviour will not stand, it will collapse even if take few years to resolve and finally earn him monumental and irredeemable disgrace.

"This is a further confirmation that our leaders especially the Governors are power drunk, we just witnessed what happened in Adamawa. Today, Kano traditional institutions is unstable and in disarray because of politics and recklessness of a recalcitrant Governor under the APC.

"I urge the Oyo people to remain calm and resolute , truth will prevail over evil. Even as the action of the Governor is annoying and disrespectful to the good people of Oyo and the traditional institutions at large , they should not take laws in their own hands because what the Governor will be looking for now is scape goats that will be used to silence the will of the people," Fabiyi opined. 

According to Fabiyi, the Oyo Mesi, led by the Bashorun of Oyo had two years ago, went through the statutory process of selecting an Alaafin elect that clearly and credibly produced Prince Lukman Gbadegesin.

The process, he said, enjoyed the approval of the state Government but truncated "...after the process have been concluded the Governor decided to use the power of his office to twarth the already concluded process for reason being that Prince Lukman Gbadegesin is an ally of the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

"This unfortunate and unfounded allegations is most ridiculous and fallacious in all ramifications.

"The Governor should be reminded that every Governors before him that has negatively meddled in the Chieftancy affairs always ended in regrets and disgrace," the PDP chieftain stressed. 

Fabiyi also called on all Yoruba sons and daughters, home and abroad, and royal fathers to rise in defence of the traditional institutions, which he said the Governor is waging war against,"...by this brazen desecration of our heritage."
