At Last, EFCC Nabs Yahaya Bello

Immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, FreshNews has gathered.

He was picked up at 1pm Tuesday, in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. 

Sources close to the anti-graft agency say he is already being grilled over alleged financial misconduct during his tenure.

Bello was governor of Kogi State between 2016 and 2023. He is facing mismanagement of state funds, embezzlement and abuse of office.

Bello and the EFCC have been having a cat and mouse relationship in the last few months following his refusal to submit himself for questioning. Among others, he is being accused of pilfering the state of funds to the tune of N110bn fraud, prompting the anti-graft agency to file a 19 count charge against him and his nephew, Ali Bello, others, for money laundering offences totalling N80.44bn
