Borno Under Seige as Terrorists Overrun Military Base
*Soldiers reported fleeing towards Dikwa, about 40 kilometers away.
Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, was placed under palpable tension early Monday morning as terrorists said to belong to the Boko Haram sect, launched a daring and decisive attack on a Nigerian Army base located in Marte, Marte council area of the state.
Multiple reports also indicate that the attack resulted in the capture and death of a number of soldiers.
According to eye witnesses, the the attack on the facility, identified as the Forward Operation Base, 153 Task Force Battalion, took place at about 3am on Monday.
They also said the attackers overwhelmed the base, resulting in the capture and killing of a yet to be given number of active servicemen. Another independent but anonymous source disclosed that the invaders seized a large chunk of arms and ammunition before torching a number of military equipments, including Armoured vehicles.
More witnesses confirmed that the attack forced remnants of the base to scamper in all directions, including heading towards Dikwa which houses the 24 Task Force Brigade, almost 40 kilometres from Marte.
