Abuse of Minor: Anambra Govt Hands Over Housewife to Police

Anambra state government has handed over a housewife, Mrs Osinacji Edeh, 29, to the state police command over the alleged abuse/inflicting serious bodily injuries on her 17-year old student and househelp in Awka. The hand over was conducted by officials of the state Ministry of Education.

The move, according to the state, is part of its commitment for the welfare and safety of students and pupils in Anambra State.

Preliminary investigations revealed that upon noticing severe bodily injuries on the student during teaching session, school officials had during a teaching session,notified the ministry after making enquiries. The victim was said to have disclosed, during interaction that the injuries were inflicted on her by her guardian because she used the guardian’s phone to make call without her permission.

According to the victim, Mrs. Osinachi, angered by the act, allegedly used a hot pressing iron on her as a form of punishment, an act the suspect allegedly confessed to during interrogation.

Consequently, the command placed her in custody. While commending the public for being vigilant, the command also assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted and that justice will be served in accordance with the Law.

In press statement by the Police Public Relations officer, PPRO, Tochukwu Ikenga, the command urged parents to give birth to the number of children that they can take care of so as to avoid leaving them vulnerable to abuse whilst in the care of others.
