EFCC Legality Suit: Gov Alia Suspends Benue AG

Benue state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Fidelis Mynin, has been suspended.

The suspension order, which was announced Wednesday, was issued by the state governor, Rev Hyacinth Alia, for joining 18 other states in the suit challenging the legality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, without his (Governor's) knowledge.

Surprised that the state was listed among those challenging the legality of the anti-corruption commission, Alia showed no hesitation in ordering the suspension of the attorney general.

Governor Alia's image maker, Kula Tersoo, who confirmed the development, explained that the AG was indeed fired for acting without the consent of the governor.

“It’s true, His Excellency today suspended the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order for joining the suit challenging the legality of EFCC without informing the governor," he confirmed.

Recalled that 19 state, led by Kogi, filed a case at the Supreme Courtchallenging the constitutionally of the EFCC.

The case, which was earlier scheduled for judgement on Tuesday was however, adjourned.

Meanwhile, three out of the 19, Adamawa, Anambra and Ebonyi, withdrew withdrew from the suit.

More states are expected to file for their withdrawals
