Finally, Finitri Emerges as Adamawa Governor-Elect
Governor Bello Finitri of Adamawa state retains his seat
At long last, incumbent governor of Adamawa state, Bello Finitri, has been declared Governor-elect of the state following the final counting of the rerun election held on Saturday, April 15.
The announcement was made Tuesday by Returning Officer, Professor Mohammed Mele.
According to Mele, Finitri, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, polled 430,861 to beat flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hajia Aisha Binani, who scored 396,788.
On Sunday, INEC suspended collation of the supplementary governorship election following an earlier announcement by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barr Hudu Yunusa Ari which proclaimed Hajia Binani as winner of the rerun.
The declaration contravenes section 25 of the Electoral Act, 2022 which authorizes only the Returning Officer as the one to announce the result and declare the winner of a governorship election.
