Group Empowers Community Through Fundraising

A social cultural group, Umuada Ugwu Awgbu, has marked its entrance into community development arena with a fundraising event designed to upgrade the lives of Ugwu Awgbu community indigenes, Orumba North council area of Anambra state.

The fundraising event, aptly termed Empowering the Community, Enriching Lives, includes a N50m endowment drive, aimed at empowering the less privileged, constructing the Okpu Tourist Garden, and providing solar lights for the community.

In his address, Capt. Nwafor commended the UMUADA UGWU AWGBU leadership for their tireless efforts in promoting community development and social welfare. He pledged his support for the organization's initiatives, emphasizing the importance of community-driven projects.

Graced by important dignitaries, including the guest of honour, Capt Barter Cashmir Nwafor, Mayor of Orumba North council area. Other dignitaries include President General, Umuada Ugwu Awgbu, Secretary, Mrs Ebele Ukegbu and Chief (Mrs) NGOZI Ezeanowi, 

The event also honored three remarkable centenarians: Glori Eziamaka Ezeani, 118 years old; the oldest Ada Amokwe UGWU AWGBU, 104 years old; and the last woman entrepreneur (Shop Ekenta), 104 years old. These inspiring women were celebrated for their contributions to the community and their remarkable longevity.

The inauguration was led by Rev. Fr. Anthony Chidi Ike, the first indigenous Catholic priest of Ugwu Awgbu, who also delivered the open prayer. 

 The event was a testament to the power of community and the importance of empowering women and the less privileged. The UMUADA UGWU AWGBU organization is committed to making a positive impact in Awgbu, Anambra State.
