Killing of 21 Soldiers: Anambra Police Refutes Claim

The Anambra State Police Command has refuted what it called "a misleading, unfounded, and false report..."

The information, contained in a release made available to newsmen by command spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, is alleged to have been circulated by some online platforms and traditional national dailies, claiming that gunmen killed 21 soldiers in the state.

"The Command wishes to state that the report is untrue, a product of fiction, and the handiwork of mischief-makers.

"Further inquiries were made by the Command, showing that there is no record of such an incident or otherwise, but deliberate acts by unscrupulous elements are to cause tension in the state.

"Therefore, the Command shall not hesitate to invoke relevant cyber laws on persons found wanting in this regard."

The command, which expressed dismay at false information, pointted out that the hospital where the corpse of the soldiers were deposited does not exist in the state capital as contained in the report.

While urging the general public to disregard the report which it described as a "...deliberate acts by unscrupulous elements..." to cause tension in the state, vowing to "...invoke relevant cyber laws on persons found wanting in this regard."
