FCT CP Orders Immediate Investigation Into Killing of Resident, Citizen Onyebuchi Anene

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, command, CP Benneth Igweh, has ordered immediate investigation into the killing of one Onyebuchi Anene following what the police described as tragic and unprecedented in the FCT.

, Anene was killed in the Byazhin area of the FCT on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 in an incident described as "accidental disharge".

 The development is contained in a statement made available to newsmen by command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.

"In response to the tragic and unprecedented incident that resulted in the untimely demise of one Oyebuchi Anene 'm' of Byazhin Abuja on May 22, 2024, at about 9:45 PM, the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, directed the DC Criminal Investigation Department to commence an immediate and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the deceased," the statement read in part.

The statement also fisclosed that the officer responsible for the alleged killing is already in police custody.

Meanwhile, the police boss has expressed what it described as" profound and heartfelt confolences" both to the family of the deceased Anene and the general public, assuring that justice will certainly be served on the unfortunate incident.

"While the police officer responsible for the accidental discharge is in custody, the CP expresses profound and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the public at large.

"He unequivocally condemns the unprofessional and disheartening conduct of the police officer and assures family and the public of swift justice."
