Many Feared Dead in Anambra Over Rice Stampede
*As ten died in the FCT over palliatives.

Less than a week after 35 children died from stampede in a Christmas event in the Basorun area of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, unconfirmed reports say that several people lost their lives in Okija, Ihiala council area of Anambra state, Saturday, following a stampede in a rice distribution centre.
Although details of the unfortunate incident are yet to be given, reports say the stampede occurred when people rushed to have access to yuletide rice.
Meanwhile, ten people, including children, lost their lives in another palliative-relative incident at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, on Saturday.
The incident, which left many others injured, occurred at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, Abuja.
Eye witnesses say the incident occurred as thousands of residents rushed for the palliatives being distributed by the church as part of the church's desire to provide relief to struggling residents in and around the area.
The event was said to have drawn over 3,000 people, mostly from surrounding areas, including Gishiri, Mpape and environs.
The incident was confirmed by the National Director, Social Communications, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Padre Mike Nsikak Umoh.
According to him, the distribution was put on hold following the incident.
“Yes it’s true but with sketchy details,” Umoh said.
