Minister of education clears NELFUND of fraud allegations in student loan disbursement

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has given the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, a clean bill of health, insisting that the nation’s student loan agency is fraud-free.
Alausa said the investigation carried out following the allegation of mismanagement of the fund showed that the agency did not carry out any sharp practices.
The minister stated this on Wednesday, after a meeting he convened in Abuja with participants, including vice chancellors, officials of the National Universities Commission, Nigerian Education Loan Fund and officials of his ministry.
The minister faulted the statement by the Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission and other related offences regarding the allegation, insisting that the anti-graft agency was wrong in the statement it put up regarding the development.
The ICPC had released a statement, saying while carrying out investigation into the alleged discrepancies in the students loan disbursement by NELFUND, it discovered that the agency disbursed all the amount it was intended to release as loan to students.
