Police Re-Arrest Kidnap Suspect in Anambra

Operatives of the Nigerian Police, Anambra State Command, have rearrested an alleged Kidnapper said to be involved in the abduction and subsequent murder of late Hon Justice Azuka, a member of the state House of Assembly, representing Onitsha 1.

The suspect, whose name is given as Ikemefuna Ossai, was arrested following what a police statement, released by command spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, described as, "...a painstaking and intelligence-led operation."

Initially picked up over the kidnap and murder incidents, Ossai however, escaped custody following which he was tracked across multiple states within Nigeria, including a neighbouring West African country.

However, he was apprehended in nearby Asaba, Delta State on 7th May 2025.

In attempt to escape upon sighting the operatives who were after him, he was shot in the leg, subdued and rearrested.

While it has intensive efforts to arrest other suspects involved in the crime, the command has, once more, reassured the people of the state of its commitment to ensuring utmost security. It urged members of the public to continue availing the command of adequate information to help rein in the excesses of criminal elements in and around them.

"The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its unwavering resolve to bring all perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety and security of Ndi Anambra," the statement reads in part
