NEC Urges Govt To Negotiate New Minimum Age
Vice President Kasim Shettima

The National Economic Council, NEC, has resolved to re-negotiate the national minimum wage.

The council made the resolution Thursday, at its meeting at the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja, following the removal of the petrol subsidy which precipitated the recent hike in Premium Motor Spirit, PMS from N540 to N617 per litre.

The council, comprising the 36 state governors and headed by the Vice president, also resolved that each state should plan towards implementing a cash transfer programme based on its social register, pay public servants all outstanding liabilities as part of the palliative measures geared towards cushioning the effects of the subsidy removal for Nigerians.

Among other resolutions, NEC resolved that governments should start funding of Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises, MSME, with single digit interest just as it must begin immediate implementation of the energy transition plan from fossil fuel to Compressed Natural Gas, CNG.

Chaired by the Vice President, NEC recommends that government offer cash award for public servants over a six-month period and reduce cost of governance at all levels.

In addition, food items, grains and fertilizers are to be distributed to the people from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.
