Review Your Recruitment List, Police Tells PSC

Consequent upon what it described as irregularities and corruption that marred successful candidates list submitted by the Police Service Commission, PSC, the Nigeria Police Force declared that it will not accept same.

The rejection is sequel to an avalanche of complaints raised by unsuccessful candidates and other stakeholders concerning the disappearance of the names of those who were screened and successful up to the final stage.

The position is contained in a press statement issued Saturday, by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. According to the statement, a scrutiny of the published said list indicated several anomalies and inconsistencies, among which is the rampart omission of names of successful candidates.

“Several names of persons purported to be names of successful candidates are those who did not even apply and therefore did not take part in the recruitment exercise,” he said.

The statement also noted that the faulted list has the names of candidates who failed either the Computer Based Test, physical screening, those that were disqualified after being found medically unfit.

“Most worrisome is the allegation of financial dealings and corrupt practices leading to the outcome where unqualified and untrainable individuals have been shortlisted,” he stated.

Following from the findings, the statement pointed out, the IGP, Olukayode Egbetokun, transmitted a letter to the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, on June 10, 2024, in which he cited both the irregularities and the Force's rejection of the submitted list.

“The reaction of the IGP was without prejudice to the power of the commission to recruit for the police as ruled by the Supreme court but this power does not include the power to recruit unqualified and untrained individuals for the police,” the statement noted.

“Noting that it is the police that bears the brunt of recruitment of unqualified individuals and not the PSC. The same people who recruited anyhow for the police today will turn round to accuse the police tomorrow of inefficiency when their recruits start messing up,” it added.

According to the statement, the police dissociated themselves from the published list and requested for a more transparent and credible review of the process in order to recruit what it described as “qualified, competent, trainable and productive hands into the Nigeria Police Force, in line with the police reform vision of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.
