Super Eagles' Coach, Finidi George, Throws-in the Towel

Newly appointed Super Eagles manager, Finidi George, has resigned his position.

Former media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, disclosed this in a post on X on Saturday. “News just in. Finidi George #FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his #NGSuperEagles manager position.” he wrote.

While confirming the development, a source close to both the The Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, and the former international, told FreshNews that the former Eyimba of Aba manager has indeed thrown in the towel.

Craving anonymity, the source described the development as very disgraceful, adding that those at the NFF have a lot of explanations and apologies to tender to the Nigerian football loving public over the manner they have handled Affairs of particularly the senior national football team.

"It is a disgrace. The NFF has a lot of explaining to do. They have to apologize to Nigerians over what they have reduced the Super Eagles to. It is a disgrace," the source emphasized.

Finidi's resignation is sequel to the decision by the NFF to employ a foreign Technical Adviser to superintend the team's affairs.

He was appointed Super Eagles coach barely a month ago. Since then, he has led the team over two World Cup qualifying matches-the first against Bayana Bayana of South Africa, which ended in a one all draw in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom state.

The second match played against the Squirrel of Benin Republic in Abidjan, Cote d'Voire, ended abysmally, with the Nigerian team beaten 2:1, in an outcome widely regarded as an unprecedented flaw for the team.

George, 53, succeeded Jose Peseiro with whom he acted as an assistant before the latter was was dismissed in February. He was promptly employed on a one-year contract with a N15m pay. However, the rate was down graded to N5m following his demotion.
