Anambra Police Boss Condemns Ogbaru Attack

Anambra State Police commissioner, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has condemned, in strong terms the Saturday morning attack in the headquarters of Ogbaru council area of the state in which four patrol vehicles belonging to vigilante groups were destroyed, describing it as an act of cowardice.

Reports say the arsonists arrived at the scene of the attack in large numbers, riding on motorcycles and a vehicle wherein they began shooting indiscriminately. They were however, met with a strong resistance mounted by Vigilante Operatives until the arrival of the police response team.

The assailants were said to beat a hasty restrict following superior firepower from the security operatives. Four operational vehicles belonging to vigilante groups were burnt and destroyed at the end of the fierce gun exchange. However, no casualty was recorded.

Shortly after the gun battle, the state Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, leading a joint security force comprising the Army, Navy, and other security agencies, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. The visit also activated a full scale operation towards apprehending the criminals.

 Meanwhile, CP Itan has commended the security operatives involved in repelling the attackers for their bravery.

He also assured the public of continued and strengthened collaboration in the fight against criminal elements in the state
