Russia's War In Ukraine Is Based On Lies-Prigozhin

Head of Wagner, Russia’s Mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, disclosed on Friday that the country’s war with Ukraine is based on lies.

Prigozhin who spoke through his Media aide via a Telegraph video, said top military brass deceived the both the Kremlin and President Vladimir Putin into invading Ukraine.

According to him, the rationale for the war was based on lies made up by the army heads.

The Wagner head, who has been involved in open confrontation with Defence Minister, Sergei Shoigu, and Russia's top general, Valery Gerasimov, openly accusing both of rank incompetence.

In Friday's video clip, Prigozhin dismissed Russia's core justifications that Ukraine planned to attack Moscow as a beautiful story.”

"There was nothing out of the ordinary happening on Feb. 24 ... the Defence Ministry is trying to deceive society and the president and tell us a story about how there was crazy aggression from Ukraine and that they were planning to attack us with the whole of NATO," Prigozhin said.

According to him, the war was engineered by Shoigu because of his desire to be made a marshal.

"The war was needed ... so that Shoigu could become a marshal ... so that he could get a second 'Hero' [of Russia] medal. The war wasn't needed to demilitarise or denazify Ukraine."

He added that the war became a must for the ruling elite as it was another opportunity for them to get richer, being dissatisfied with the commercial potential of part of Ukraine's Donbas region that Moscow seized in 2014 through a proxy separatist force.

"The task was to divide material assets (in Ukraine)," he said. "There was massive theft in the Donbas, but they wanted more."

Although his latest outburst, like previous ones, did not indict Putin, Prigozhin’s newest claims on Ukraine directly contrasts Putin’s rationale of denazifying Ukraine and its threat against Moscow.

As was been the case in the past, neither Moscow nor the Defence Ministry has reacted to the latest outbursts.

It would be recalled that on Thursday, Prigozhin accused Russsia’s the top brass of lying to Putin and the Russian people about the scale of Russian losses and setbacks in Ukraine. 

Prigozhin, who labelled Russia’s top brass as vodka- and cognac-swilling fools who lunch on caviar, also alleged that the Russian war effort was being lamed by corruption.

"We are bathing in our own blood. Time is running out fast," he said.
