Several Soldier's Killed in Borno Explosion

Several soldiers were on Monday killed in Borno when their vehicle hit a mine suspected to have been planted by Islamic State jihadist of the ISWAP sect.

They jihadist were said to have invaded the village the previous night, abducted four residents, including the local Chief, before planting the explosives. 

The disclosure was made by militia sources fighting alongside the military. 

Reports say the army unit was conducting a routine patrol in the village when it drove over a mine, leading to an explosion and subsequent death of five soldiers. 

ISWAP, a break away faction of the Boko Haram group, is the dominant sect in the area and has been attacking Nigerian soldiers units on patrol while also killing and kidnapping passengers at checkpoints.
