Support Tinubu’s Impactful Reforms, Group Urges Nigerians
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The Hope Alive Initiatives, HAI, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his impactful reforms as exemplified by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFund.

Describing the impact of the reform as a revitalization of the country’s education sector with with landmark initiatives that are already reshaping the future of learning and research across the nation, the group noted that supporting the president will enable him produce more outstanding reforms in other sectors the same way he set a new benchmark in education sector.

The good governance group made the call in a statement on Sunday by its Director, Press and Communications, Ernest Omoarelojie, in Abuja on Sunday. HAI stated that from the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, to the recent release of N2 billion each to federal universities for hostel accommodation of 500-bed spaces in the respective institutions amounting to over N250 billion, the Tinubu administration has continued to underscore a deliberate strategy to empower students, strengthen institutions, and position education as the bedrock of national development.

The most remarkable feat, the group noted, is the seamless operationalization of the NELFund processes, a visionary scheme designed to provide interest-free loans to Nigerian students in tertiary institutions, unlike before when, for decades, access to higher education was hindered by financial constraints which left countless young people unable to pursue their dreams.

“For decades, access to higher education has been hindered by financial constraints, leaving countless talented youths unable to pursue their dreams, but today, NELFUND directly addresses this challenge by ensuring that no student is denied education due to lack of funds,” the statement states.

“The scheme is not just about financing tuition; it is about democratizing opportunity. By removing the financial barriers, NELFUND empowers students from diverse backgrounds to acquire knowledge, skills, and competencies that will enable them to contribute meaningfully to the economy," it further noted.

“It is without doubt that this initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places human capital development at the centre of our country’s growth trajectory.

“We note with great enthusiasm that in a further demonstration of commitment, the Tinubu administration is releasing N2 billion to each federal university across the country for hostel development to address acute hostel accommodation that has beleaguered public universities for decades.

“This intervention is a game‑changer for thousands of students who have had to grapple with poor and dilapidated hostel infrastructure.

“The value addition is immense. Improved hostel infrastructure will create a conducive environment for learning, and allow the students to compete favourably.”

The HAI expressed the confidence that this intervention signals a new era of accountability, as institutions are expected to deploy these resources transparently and strategically to maximize impact.

HAI called on university authorities to expedite action on the refund of school fees to students who paid before receiving support under the student loan scheme. The statement also stresses that “Education is the foundation of every prosperous society, and the Tinubu administration recognizes that Nigeria’s future depends on the quality of its human capital. By investing in students through NELFUND and strengthening institutions with direct funding, the government is laying the groundwork for a knowledge‑driven economy.

“These measures will produce graduates who are not only academically sound but also equipped with practical skills to thrive in a competitive global marketplace.

“The strides in the education sector reflect President Tinubu’s broader vision of Renewed Hope for Nigeria. They demonstrate that education is not just a social service but a strategic investment in the nation’s future. By prioritizing access, equity, and quality, the administration is ensuring that every Nigerian child has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.”

The group called on Nigerians to note that the Tinubu administration has set a new benchmark in educational reform through these interventions and many others, and urged Nigerians to continue to support the government to do more for our country.
