The Nigerian Supreme Court has rejected the Appeal by the government of Rivers state to block right of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to probe the tenure of the former governor.
The appeals were made by both by the Attorney General of Rivers State and the Speaker of the state’s Assembly. Odili obtained a Port Harcourt Federal High Court perpetual injunction in 2007 barring the EFCC from either arresting or investigating or arresting the former governor.
The order also barred the EFCC from looking into the finances of the state government compelling the anti graft commission to approach the Appeal Court for permission to appeal the Federal High Court’s decision at the expiration of the deadline.
The EFCC win the appeal following which the Attorney General of the state and the Speaker of the state Assembly to appeal to the Supreme Court.
Among others, they sought to overturn the leave granted to the EFCC to contest the perpetual order
