US Police Shoot, Kill Man in Wrong Address Response

Police officers from the Farmington Police Department, New Mexico, shot and killed 52 year-old Robert Dotson in his home, different from the address from which they received a domestic violence call.

ABC reports that the incident, which took place on Friday, had officers from the department opening fire and killing the victim after they showing up at the wrong address.

Body camera footage show the officers, now on paid administrative leave pending investigation outcome, arriving at the home and walking up to the front door, away from the address posted on the home, brightly illuminated by an exterior light. They went ahead to knock on the door, announcing themselves.

While still knocking on the door for the second time and calling for the owner to step forward, they also asked a dispatcher to confirm the address which turned out to be that of a home across the street.

The home owner, armed with a short gun, is seen opening his door just as the officers rained multiple rounds on him, backing away.

Barely one minute afterwards, a woman is heard screaming inside the home with more shots ringing out. Though she wasn't injured, she could be heard pleading with the officers that her husband has been shot and needed urgent help.

"Help! Somebody shot my husband. Please! Please! My kids are upstairs," she said.

The man's daughter is also heard calling dispatchers, saying she heard bangs, then gunfire, concluding that her dad needed help. She and two other children were inside the home at the time of the shooting.
