Zamfara Bandits Kill 7 Soldiers, 1 Policeman and 20 Vigilantes
*2 soldiers still missing.
Bandits operating in Zamfara state on Monday, July 24, 2023, ambushed and killed seven Nigerian Army personnel conducting foot patrols around bandits camps and enclaves.
Reports also indicate that an Army officer, a member of the ambushed FOB Kango, a policeman and 20 vigilante members are among those killed by the bandits with two other soldiers still missing in action.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj Gen Edward Buba, who made the disclosure, added you however, that the troop successfully repelled the attack, "inflicting casualties on the bandits".
“On 24 July 2023, bandits attack troops of Sect 1 FOB Kango while on foot patrol.
“The troops repelled the attack inflicting casualties on the bandits.
“Troops however sustained casualties in the process as follows: Killed in Action were 1 officer, 5 soldiers, 1 NPF personnel and 20 vigilantes that joined the troops to repel the attack.
“2 soldiers missing in action.
“Specific details of the deceased are being withheld until completion of administrative procedures to notify their families," Buba disclosed.
Maj Gen Buba noted that a 'search and rescue' effort has been activated to find the missing personnel, adding that the development will not deter the troops from mounting further offensive on the bandits.
“Search and rescue operation still in progress.
“The FOB has been beefed up following the threats of reprisal by the bandits due to the casualties they sustained.
“Troops are poised for further offensive against the bandits," he said.
