Alaafin Stool: Gov. Makinde Chasing Shadows…. Group

A group known as Oyo Prominent Sons Association has chided the Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde for his unprecedented role in the appointment of a new Aláàfin of Oyo. 

The comment is contained in a statement signed and released in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital on Friday by its chairman, Dr Kazeem Agunbiade 

The group remarked the governor as chasing shadows on the raging Alaafin stool.

 According to the statement, press statement, the group lamented the role played by the Governor Makinde in Alaafin succession, a role it said calls for serious concerns.

“The recent needless controversy created by the Gov. Seyi Makinde administration on the succession process to the Alaafin stool is concerning.

“A situation where the Governor rejected the legitimately selected Alaafin-elect by the real Oyo Mesi under the Prime Minister of Oyo Kingdom, High Chief Bashorun Yussuf Akinade is unheard of in Oyo’s history as an empire and in modern times.

“This singular action has dented the image and moral fabric of the Governor in no small measures.

“It is more-so, condescending and ridiculous that Governor Makinde would stand in the way of convention and do the unthinkable in the selection of an Alaafin.

“Governor Makinde going ahead with the presentation of staff of office to his selected candidate in the Governor’s office is against the tradition and norms therefore reducing the exalted Alaafin stool to appointing a commissioner in his government. It is evident that following the illegal and brazen action of the Governor and efforts to manipulate the Oyo Mesi has failed abysmally, the Governor resorted to intimidation and blackmailing of the Oyo Mesi. A sign of desperation of no small measure.

“We challenge the Governor to tell the whole world , where he presented the staff of office to His Royal Highness Asheyin of Iseyin ? Where did he perform the same ceremony on The Soun Ogbomosho? Where did he present to the Olubadan of Ibadan and the recent one on Iba Rasheed Ladoja?

“The Chairman further said, the Governor can continue to chase shadows and deceiving himself and his chosen candidate, it’s a matter of time , the laws will settle it,” the group noted.
