Anambra Police Boss Commends State Government, Law Makers Over New Law

Anambra police commissioner, he Commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has commended both the state government and members of the state assembly for the passage and signing of the Anti-Cultism and Anti-Touting law.
The law, signed by the governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, on Tuesday, 11 June, 2024, prescribes a 21 year minimum jail term for offenders, with no option particularly for those found culpable over cult-related offences.
However, those found culpable of harassing innocent individuals under the Anti-Touting law, harassment with a view to obtaining illegal tolls, illegal scalpers or any related activities, will face a jail term of six months or a fine of Five Hundred Thousand (N500, 000) Naira.
The development is contained in a release made available to newsmen in Awka, Wednesday, by command spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu.
According to the statement, the signing of the new law will further strengthen and re-echo the campaign and stand against touting and cultism, particularly as they affect the Police advocacy program-Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices *POCAVCO, aimed at sensitizing youths in the state of the dangers of bad groups, drugs, and other vices.
The CP also employed the occasion to warn criminal elements, under any guise, to repent as the command is willing and ready make anyone found culpable of any breach to face the full weight of the law.
He also urges parents/guardians to admonish their children/wards in this regard.
