Anambra Police Arrest Couple Over Alleged Attempted Kidnapping

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a couple, Kingsley Okoye 36, and his wife, Chidinma Okoye, 27, over alleged kidnapping. The arrest is sequel to reports of SMS and voice notes received by a number of people with threats of abduction. 

According to a statement issued by the command spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, acting on the information, the Joint Security Force, picked up the couple in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo council area of the state, the early hours of Friday. 

The security team also recovered exhibits, including phones and sim cards.

According to the statement, the couple specialises in sending threatening messages to people and demanding ransom or they shall be abducted or killed.

"They all confessed to the crime and admitted to destroying some of the sim cards which they had earlier used to commit the crimes," the statement disclosed. 

The case has been transfered to the Anti-Kidnapping/Robbery Squad on the orders of the Commissioner, CP, Nnaghe Obono Itam.

In yet another development, the command disclosed that it is equally investigating another recent and related voice note relating to how a victim escaped abduction from an alleged Security Operative.

It assures that citizens and resident should continue to avail the command with useful information, which it said is necessary for the command to activate all relevant intelligence tools to unmask criminals across the state, noting that it will not take such information for granted.
