Anambra Police Neutralizes 2 Kidnappers, Frees Victim

Operatives of the Anambra Police Command on Tuesday neutralized two armed robbery/kidnap gang members while on routine patrol along the Ichida-Igboukwu Expressway, Anaocha council area of the state.

This was disclosed in a release made available to newsmen in Awka, the state capital, by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu.

According to the statement, the operatives, alongside members of the state vigilante group, shot dead the two members of a notorious armed robbery gang and rescued a kidnap victim.

The statement added that the operatives recovered one Ak47 rifle, two pump action guns, two Ak47 magazines, thirty-two live ammunition and a Highlander jeep, belonging to the unnamed victim.

Preliminary information reveals that the deadly 8-man gang, operating in two vehicles-a Grey Highlander jeep and a white Lexus jeep, abducted the rescued victim in her Ash Highlander jeep.

In a related development, operatives of the Forward Operating Base, FOB, were involved in a gun dwell with suspected kidnappers, along the Uga-Ezenifite Expressway, Aguata council area of the state.

The two vehicles belonging to the suspects were flagged down for routine check along the Expressway. However, they defied the stop order and zoomed off, prompting the operatives to go after them in their vehicles-a white Lexus 350 and Highlander, both of which had no plate numbers.

Following the ensuing chase and shootout, the suspects abandoned both vehicles and took to their heels. 

While conducting a search on the vehicle, the operatives recovered two automatic pump action guns, eleven live cartridges and a bag containing one walkie-talkie, a cell phone and other incriminating items.
