Anambra Security: Itam Advocates Intelligence, Tech and-Driven Tactical Operations

The new Anambra state Police Commissioner, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has advocated for a policing model based on practical intelligence, technology-driven and tactical operations in the state. 

The development is contained in a statement issued by the command spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu. 

According to the statement, CP Itam gave the indication while addressing relevant security stakeholders, including sectional operation heads, officers and men of the command at the command headquarters, Awka, on Thursday. 

Itam, who also directed the creation of Field Operations Surveillance Centers and Field Operations Retraining Centers within the Area Commands, emphasized on the use of surveillance drones and refresher courses on weapon handling, musketry, and other monitoring devices aimed not only at nipping crime in the bud but also guiding investigations when crimes are committed.

Among others, he reiterated his stand against any professional misconduct, including in particular, extortion and other street-level corruption. He enjoined officers of the command to supervise personnel in their respective sections/units, adding that the Command, under his watch, would not tolerate any form of unprofessional conduct by police personnel.

Stakeholders at high stake meeting include the Deputy Police Commissioner, Operations; the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Intelligence; Heads of Tactical Units including the Commander of Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD); Commander, Anti-kidnapping/Rapid Respond Squad and among others, Commander of Special Anti-Cultism Squad.
