Anxiety Mounts as A Possible Coup Unfolds in Sudan
Gunfire and heavy explosions rage in Khartoum as fear of coup mounts

Amidst heavy gunfire and explosions in Khartoum and other cities There are fears that a coup d'etat may be unfolding in Sudan as heavy gunfire and explosions are heard in Khartoum and other Sudanese cities, including Merowe in the Northern part of the country.
Reports say anxiety is mounting particularly around the capital city following sustained fighting.
The attack is said to be launched by the notorious paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, RSF, following days of tension between the two military outfits.
Reuters reports that the ongoing standoff between the two groups centres around a proposed transition to civilian rule.
While the RSF, under the command of the council's vice-president Gen Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, is accusing the army of attacking one of its camps in the south of Khartoum, the Army, commanded by head of the Sovereign Council, Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, accused RSF fighters of trying to seize the military headquarters.
"Fighters from the Rapid Support Forces attacked several army camps in Khartoum and elsewhere around Sudan," the AFP news agency is quoting army spokesman Brig Gen Nabil Abdallah.
"Clashes are ongoing and the army is carrying out its duty to safeguard the country."
A proposed move to a civilian-led government has foundered on the timetable to integrate the RSF into the national army. Whereas the RSF wanted it delayed for 10 years, the army insist it should happen in two years.
