Rivers Police Busts Child-trafficking Syndicate, Arrests Two Women

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command said they have busted a cross border child-trafficking syndicate. 

The Command said this in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Friday. 

The statement noted that the command arrested three women who are members of the syndicate, adding that they operate within and outside the state.

According to the statement, the arrest followed a complaint lodged by a woman in Ubima Community in Ikwerre council area of the state over her missing child.

It explained that one of the suspects was picked up following the disclosure that she visited the complainant a few days before the child went missing.

Other members of the syndicate, said to be from Imo state, are still being trailed.

“Following up on a complaint by Ms. Precious Friday of Ubima Community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State that her child was missing, Operatives of the Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit swang into action.

“They arrested one Mercy Enyindah, who incidentally was said to have visited the complainant’s home shortly before the disappearance of the child.

“The arrest of Mercy Enyindah, who has confessed to having stolen the child and two other children, along with her accomplice, one Amaka Ewuzie between the weeks of February 16th and March 2023, has led to the arrest of one Chialuka Iheanacho (f) and her husband, Chukwuma Iheanacho in Delta State.

“Other members of the gang said to be in Imo State are still being trailed.”

While some of the rescued kids have been returned to and reunited with their parents, attempts to rescue another kidnapped kids, two year-old Jasper Friday (m), who was sold at Asaba, Delta State, is ongoing.
