Over 20 Killed In Plateau Attack
The victims were killed in Bubwat and Fungzai communities
Gunmen, suspected to be terrorists, on Monday night, attacked Kubwat and Fungzai communities, Mangu council area of Plateau state and killed over 20 persons.
The incident was confirmed by community sources on Tuesday.
According to the sources in Fungzai community, the gunmen killed 15 persons, including the wife and children of one of the victims. He added that a total of 29 corpses had been recovered from both attack.
The attackers, he said, came into the communities in their number, shooting sporadically, forcing the villagers to run shelter skelter and into an ambush laid by the terrorists.
“They also attacked Kubwat, a neighbouring village. So far, we have recovered a total of 29 corpses including women and children. We are in pain.”
In a statement, the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Macham Makut, condemned the killing, adding that Governor, Solomon Lalung, is seriously distressed with the news of the wanton killing.
“Governor Lalong who is seriously disturbed about the sad development has immediately directed security forces to pursue the attackers and ensure they are arrested.
“He describes this as yet another attempt by crisis merchants and criminals to return the State to the dark days of pain and agony, vowing that the Government will stop at nothing to ensure that those behind this scheme are dealt with mercilessly.
