Immediate past Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, has warned that any attempt to arrest the current president, Vladimir Putin, anywhere abroad in the aftermath of a warrant for his arrest by the International Criminal Court, ICC, will be interpreted by Moscow as a “declaration of war”.

Medvedev gave the warning on Wednesday.

“Let’s imagine-it’s clear that this is a situation that will never happen...nevertheless let’s imagine it does.

"The current head of a nuclear state arrives on the territory of, say, Germany, and is arrested. What is this? A declaration of war against the Russian Federation," he said matter of factly.

According to Medvedev, Russian weapons would hit a country if it arrested Putin.

“all of our means, rockets and others, will fly on the Bundestag, in the Chancellor’s Office and so on.”

Last week, the Hague-based ICC issued an arrest warrant for Putin who it accused of deporting Ukrainian children.

But in swift retaliatory move, Russia inaugurated a criminal investigation against ICC prosecutor, Karim Khan, and several other ICC judges, emphasizing that their decision is “unlawful”.
