Group Commends PDP BoT on Call for Damagun’s Replacement

A pro-PDP group known as PDP Young Generation Caucus, PDP-YGC, has commended the Board of Trustees, BoT, of the party on its recent call on the need for the PDP to follow its rules in allowing the North-Central zone to present a candidate for the position of the National Chairman of the party.
In a press statement released in Abuja on Thursday, the group noted that the PDP BoT under the leadership of Senator Adolphus Wabara CON had, “done the right thing for speaking up at the right moment.”
The statement, signed by Hon. Afolabi Adekanbi, President of the PDP-YGC, noted further that, “we are aware of the mudslinging that has pervaded our great party as a result of the disregard and violation of the constitution of the party.
“The PDP-YGC commends the Board of Trustees’s call for peace, unity and stability in the PDP, emphasizing on the conduct of the NEC meeting as rescheduled for February 2025 and for the North Central zone to immediately meet and provide a replacement to former National Chairman Prof. Iyorcha Ayu; and that the National Working Committee should act responsibly and provide necessary leadership.”
The group further showed its appreciation and support to the courage and decision of the PDP BoT, “to stand by the collective yearnings and interest of majority of the party members.”
The statement noted that the BoT of the PDP, beyond being an advisory body, “is also the conscience of our great party.” The statement said further:
“It is in this regard, that we are calling on all other organs that constitute NEC, for the sake of peace, unity, stability, and progress of our party to rise and prevail on Amb. Iliya Damagun-led NWC to adhere to the voice of reason and act in line with the communique of the BoT.
“We frown at unwarranted attacks on the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sen. Adolphus Wabara by some unscrupulous elements who do not want the progress of the party. Those attacks must stop forthwith because no one has a monopoly to insults.”
It will be recalled that there has been growing anxiety among members of the PDP over the refusal of the party’s NWC to convene a NEC meeting to address the issue of replacing the acting National Chairman of the party with a substantive candidate from the North-Central zone after the stepping down of Senator Iyorchia Ayu from the position.
