Guinea's Anti-Corruption Chief Arrested Over Sexcapade

Equatorial Guinea's Director-General, National Financial Investigation Agency, Baltasar Ebang Engonga, is in police custody for allegedly recording over 400 ‘workout’ videos of the wives of notable people in the Central Africa nation.

His arrest is sequel to the release of videos involving over 300 women which came to the surface he was being investigated for fraud and financial violations.

According to reports, the findings, including a number of CDs, which later unveiled a slush of sexual encounter with different married women, were made when agents of the country’s anti-corruption agents conducted an impromptu search on both the home and office of the 54 year old economist.

The videos are said to also include encounters with high-profile individuals, among whom are his brother’s wife, his cousin, the sister of the President of of the country, the Director General of Police’s wife, and among others, about 20 of the country’s ministers’ wives.

However, footages of the videos indicate that the videos were recorded with c3nsent and has since been leaked online, causing a media uproar. Reports say the sexual encounters took place in several locations, including his office, hotel rooms, and even toilets.

Engonga, who was initially arrested on corruption charges, would be facing multiple other charges as investigations uncovered the tapes on his computer and leaked them to the public.

In his reaction, the country's Attorney General, Nzang Nguema, proposed to submit Engonga to medical tests to determine if he is infected or suffers from any sexually transmitted disease, given the fact that it is a case that threatens public health.

He explained that though the images suggest that the women involved were not forced to participate, he may not be guilty of any crime as the law does not consider consensual sexual relations to be a crime. However, the case would be different if cercion or vilence is proven, which is dependent on victims reporting situations of sexual abse or assault.

The onus, he added is on victims to come forward in cases of rape or assault, noting that it is important to have an environment where people feel safe and supported to report such incidents.

According to him, the risk is not only for the women involved but also for their partners and the wider community. “The possibility of a contagious disease being spread through these s3xual interactions makes the situation even more critical,"

Meanwhile, Engonga and other officials involved in the sexcapade have been suspended with immediate effect.

The decision, according to the government, is part of its “zero tolerance” policy towards behaviour that compromises the integrity of the public service
