JSF Nab Four Suspected Insurgents in Anambra State

Operatives of the Police-led Joint Security Force of the Anambra state Police Command have arrested four suspected members of the Eastern Security Network, ESN, the armed wing of the Independent People of Biafra, IPOB.
According to a release issued in Awka by the command spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, in Awka on Tuesday, the suspects were picked up in Ufuma, Orumba North council area of the state.
According to the release, the operatives, acting on credible information in respect of an impending attack on security personnel, swoop on and dislodge the group from one of their hideouts.
"The Police -Led Joint Security Force in Aguata on 17/6/2024 intercepted four suspected ESN Militia in Ufuma, Orumba North, Anambra State. The arrest is following information received over time of planned attacks on security agents and innocent citizens by the dreaded group," the statement said.
One of the arrested suspects, 32 year-old Maduabuchi Nwafor, also known as Omenkpo, a native of Ufuma, has been identified as one of the native doctors responsible for preparing charms for the group.
The statement also noted that his shrine equally serves both as the meeting and initiation point.
Another suspect, name withheld, said to have confessed to being one of the those dispatched to enforce illegal sit-at-home order on 30, May, 2024, is already assisting the police with information.
While commending the efforts of the security team, state police commissioner, Nnaghe Obono Itam, ordered further widened and deepened investigations to identify hideouts of the insurgents who appear bent on destabilizing and truncating development in the state.
He however, assured the people of the state that the command, under his leadership, will continue to serve them selflessly and also jealously protect the sources of its information to protect informers from harm.
