Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Natanyahu, on Sunday sacked Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, for demanding for a pause in the administration's contentious move to overhaul the country's judicial system.

The disclosure was made via a statement from the Prime Minister's office.

"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to remove Defense Minister Yoav Gallant from his post, a statement from the Prime Minister's office read in part.

"The Prime Minister summoned Minister Gallant to his office and told him that he had lost confidence in him after he acted against the government and against the coalition while the Prime Minister was on a political visit abroad.

"Minister Gallant did not coordinate his words with the Prime Minister in advance and thus sabotaged efforts to reach a solution."an official in the Prime Minister's Office also said.

Gallant's offense is contained in a speech he made on Saturday night while the Prime Minister was away on an official visit to the United Kingdom.

The speech followed weeks of protests, including a pledge by some military reservists to pull out of their service over the reform.

The sacked minister reiterated the sentiment in a tweet after his sack on Sunday, insisting;

"The security of the State of Israel has always been and will always remain the mission of my life."

Many critics are of the view that the proposed plan would undermine the independence of the judiciary.
