Onyeka Onwenu Goes Home

Nigeria's "Elegant Stallion", Onyeka Onwenu, has been laid to rest. The songstress who died July 30, 2024, was buried Friday at the Ebony Vaults, James George Street, Off Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Ms Onwenu collapsed and died while performing at an event to honour the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Dr Stella Okoli.
She was 72 years old.
Before she was finally laid to rest, her funeral service was conducted at the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, Lagos.
Eminent persons present at her interment include Abia State Governor, Alex Otti and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 Presidential Election, Peter Obi Others include members of her family and friends, clergymen who wereat the gravesite to pay their last respect as her body was lowered into the grave.
Her two sons, Abraham and Tijani Ogunlende, who disclosed that doctors did all they could to save her life, described the songstress as a “national treasure, an icon and legend” whose impact will be deeply felt.
