Police Department Smash Child Trafficking Syndicate in Anambra State

The Anambra state Police Command, working together with the Adamawa State Police Command, has successfully busted a child trafficking syndicate operating between the two states. The team rescued 11 children, consisting of five boys and six girls aged between 3 and 6 years, who were abducted from Adamawa State and sold in Anambra State for prices ranging from ₦800,000 to ₦1.5 million.
The boys were sold for ₦1.5 million each, while the girls went for ₦800,000 each.
A 43-year-old female suspect, Uche Okoye, believed to be a key figure in the trafficking network, was arrested during the operation conducted on July 15, 2025.
The rescued children have been handed over to Assistant Commissioner of Police Shuaibu Wara for reunification with their families.
The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioye Uche Orutugu, praised the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command's commitment to eradicating child trafficking. He also warned prospective adoptive parents to follow legal procedures to avoid criminal prosecution.
