Somber Eid in sudan as Street Fighting Rages
No Eid joy in Sudan as fighting continues between warlords.

As Muslims around the world mark the Eid el Fitr, their counterparts in particularly Khartoum, the Sudanese capital are having a sombre end of fasting and prayers following the refusal of both the country’s military and Rapid Support Force, RSF, to abide by the terms of the three-day truce earlier brokered by the UN alongside US and others. Thus far, the intense street battle between the two warring sides have left over 400 dead.
Unlike other places where Muslims are offering packed prayers services, several mosques in Khartoum, Omdurman and other cities remained virtually empty on Friday with reports that many have fled the areas for the safety of their different regions.
Eye witnesses say intense fighting still persists in the streets of the capital between the two groups with the army insisting that it is out to “comb’ the streets for RSF stragglers.
Whereas two previous ceasefire attempts have been brokered but failed, diplomats have continued to pile pressure on both sides to come to terms with ending the bloodshed in the country.
Meanwhile, UN gas warned that over 20,000 people, comprising mostly women and children, have so far fled the country to neighbouring countries, including Chad.
