Abagana Mayhem: Four in Police Net for Burning, Killing 74-Year-Old Woman in Wheelchair

Operatives of the Anambra state police command have arrested four suspects over their alleged involvement in the burning to death of a 74 year old in a wheelchair.

The quartet, including a 24 year-old young woman, were picked in Abagana on Sunday alongside a coffin they procured to bury the deceased.

The Operatives also recovered the burnt remains of the deceased and het wheelchair. 

In a release issued by the command spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the command disclosed that in her confessional statement, one of the suspects, Chinenye, confessed that her boyfriend, Ifeanyi Igwe, currently on the run, and three others, set the victim ablaze and got a casket to bury her before the intervention of the security operatives.

A manhunt is underway to track and arrest the fleeing suspect. 

Meanwhile, the Anti Cult unit of the command, attached to the Enugwu-ukwu, on Saturday foiled a planned cult clash in Ezichike community, Abagana.

The team also arrested one Maduka Okoye, 25, a native of Abagana, over the planned clash, and recovered three expended pump action gun cartridges following a shoot out in the community.

Okoye, the command noted, confessed to being a member of Baggars Confraternity but added that he was in a beer parlor in the area, alongside his friend, when they came under fire from members of the Axed Men Confraternity, a rival group.
