Anambra Police Refutes Alleged Cosmila Hotel Murder Claims

Anambra state Police Command has refuted claims that Miss Chinyere Awuda, was killed for allegedly pilfering monies being sprayed on a birthday celebrant at Cosmila Hotel, Awka. 

The Command gave the verdict in a statement made available to newsmen in Awka on Friday by its spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu. 

The statement said she died from drowning as indicated in a post mortem report. 

"Contrary to claims that the deceased was beaten to death, the pathologist found no sign of trauma on the body.

"The autopsy report indicated that Drowning was the cause of death," the statement read in part. 

Miss Awuda's lifeless body was found in the hotel's abandoned pool on Monday, July 17, 2023.

She was said to have been beaten to death by some individuals who organized a birthday bash the night before the incident over allegations that she stole some of the Naira Notes being sprayed on the celebrant.

The statement inferred that she was indeed involved in pilfering as alleged, a reason why she eloped when accosted and in the process fell into and drowned in the abandoned pool. 

"This finding was in tandem with claims that the lady ran away when accosted and every effort made to find her that night was futile.

"It would appear that she fell into the abandoned swimming pool and drowned."
