Anambra Security: Police Intercept Suspected Gun Runner

Police operatives attached to the Anambra command on Thursday intercepted an alleged gang member of a notorious Onitsha-based gun-running syndicate.

The yet-to-be identified suspect was intercepted with seven brand new Jojef magnum pump action guns in a concealed bag.

The development is contained in a statement issued by command spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu.

According to the statement, the "...breakthrough is following the practical intelligence and tact-led Policing strategy of the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam to frustrate criminal plans, especially on the intel received over time about planned attacks by unlawful group/secessionists to enforce illegal sit-at-home on 30th May 2024."

The statement further explained that the Interception took place when operatives of the command "laid ambush at the identified location at Creek Road, Onitsha..."

However, the suspect was said to have abandoned the consignment and fled the area on sighting the police.

Meanwhile, the state police boss, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered an immediate and extensive manhunt to arrest the fleeing suspect. He urged residents of the state to sustain existing cooperation with the command in order "...to be able to frustrate the criminal intentions of the nonstate actors in the State."
