The Nzuko Odinani Welfare Association, NOWA, has called on Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to reconsider its ban on water sacrifices, a practice deeply rooted in Igbo tradition and culture.
The group, which made the appeal through its President General, Nze Onyebuchi Izuegbu and Secretary General, Nze Dike Ugbaja, emphasized the historical, cultural, and spiritual significance of water sacrifices, assured that the traditional practice is part of the people's cultural cleansing exercises.
The group also appealed to the government to allocate portions of streams for sacrificial purposes, highlighting that traditional practices cannot exist without water sacrifices.
It also called on the government to intervene and stop the intimidation of traditionalists by security operatives and Presidents General across the state.
In response, Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji, commended NOWA for supporting Governor Soludo's efforts to transform the state.
