Hardship: Anambra Monarch Charges Citizens to Re-embrace Farming

The traditional ruler of Nando, Oyi Council of Anambra State, Igwe Engr Simon Obidike(Eze Ezu Nando) has urged Nigerians, especially his subjects to return back to the land to farm.

The monarch who made the call during the celebration of 2024 New Yam festival of his Nando community stated that it would immensely benefit the national economy as well as all households. He noted that when greater number of citizens engage in one form of agriculture or another, even if its just vegetable garden, it would reduce the present strain on the market for foodstuffs.

He said that New Yam festival was specifically to celebrate the yam, the king of crops.

The event which was commenced with church service at Obidike's palace was attended by many business executives, religious leaders,top government officials as well as other traditional rulers, sons and daughters, and well wishers of Nando community. Igwe Obidike described New yam festival as an ancient annual event used in appreciating God for his blessings and grace in a bountiful harvest for the year. 

That the community also use the occasion to get together to deliberate on crucial matters that will transform and uplift the community. "It is a period used to appreciate farmers in the community so as to enable those lagging behind to strive to meet up.

The President General of the Community ,Chief Christopher Nkechukwukwuru Nwakor expressed joy towards the unity and progress of Nando. He applauded the efforts of Igwe Obidike for his efforts so far on the throne. He described the monarch as "God sent" to the people of Nando Chief Tony Nwabunwanne, (Ichie Agbawodike Izu expressed gratitude to God for the gift of life upon them and the Igwe, who he acknowledged was being greatly used by God to bring developments to Nando.
