Insecurity in Fed University, dutsina: Members of Staff Are Informants to Bandits, VC
*Says the situation is getting worse.
The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Dutsinma, Prof Armaya’u Bichi, has raised the alarm, alleging that some members of staff of the institution are serving as informants to bandits and terrorists.
He made to disclosure while briefing newsmen in Katsina on Tuesday, noting that the contacts of the alleged staff members are already in the possession of security agencies for further investigations.
Prof Bichi’s disclosure is coming on the heels of several bandit attacks on the university, culminating in the abduction of students, staff as well as members of their families.
The latest attack, he pointed out, led to the death of one of the institution’s staff which prompted his colleagues to embark on a peaceful protest over the state of insecurity in and around the university.
Describing the situation as worrisome, Prof Bichi pointed out that the management of the university is doing everything within its powers to prevent further incidents of attacks and or abductions, the situation, he added, is getting worse.
“This issue of informants is worrisome; therefore, we investigated those we are suspecting of giving out their colleagues and students’ information.
”We have found them and handed over their contacts to one of the security agencies for further investigation.
“But we have not heard anything from the securities. “These suspects are our staff. We have strong reasons for accusing them of being informants to bandits,” he disclosed.
